“I found Delbert and Thelma on an evening walk, five years ago, in Central Pennsylvania. Their many acres of farm land were littered with stripped cars, bathtubs, rusted tractors, and farm machinery that had been left unattended for what must have been thirty years. Returning this winter with hopes of photographing their farm, I was welcomed onto their land and asked few questions. They assumed nothing and might have allowed me to stay all evening if I hadn’t needed to leave, my toes having gone numb after one short hour.”
